How to remove tar from clothes

Removing tar stains from clothes can be challenging, but eliminating them is possible with the right tools and techniques. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to remove tar from clothes:

Materials:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Clean cloth
  • A toothbrush or soft-bristled brush
  • Bucket or sink

Step 1: Remove excess tar

Use a dull knife or spoon to remove excess tar from the fabric. Be gentle to avoid damaging the fabric.

Step 2: Apply rubbing alcohol

Dampen a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol and gently blot the stain. Rubbing alcohol helps to dissolve the tar and makes it easier to remove. Let the alcohol sit on the color for a few minutes.

Step 3: Apply dish soap

Apply a small amount of dish soap directly onto the stain. Gently rub the stain with your fingers or a soft-bristled brush. Be sure to cover the entire stain with dish soap.

Step 4: Let it soak

Fill a bucket or sink with warm water and add a scoop of laundry detergent or vinegar. Let the garment soak in the solution for 30 minutes to an hour. This will help to loosen the tar and make it easier to remove.

Step 5: Scrub the stain

After soaking, gently scrub the stain with a toothbrush or soft-bristled brush. Sc scrubs both sides of the fabric to remove any remaining tar.

Step 6: Rinse and repeat

Rinse the garment thoroughly with warm water. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 2–5 until the stain is gone.

Step 7: Launder the garment

Once the stain is gone, launder the garment in the washing machine as usual. Add a scoop of baking soda to the wash to help remove any remaining odors.

Step 8: Air dry

Hang the garment to air dry instead of using the dryer. Check the stain before laundering it again if needed.

Following these steps, you can successfully remove tar stains from your clothes and keep your wardrobe clean and fresh. Remember to be patient and persistent, and don’t hesitate to seek professional help.
